Meet the wonder womxn who make 100 Strong happen
OUR PEOPLE
FOUNDERS
100 Strong was founded in 2013 by these 5 UC Berkeley undergraduates who won the Big Ideas at Berkeley competition in the category of Global Poverty Alleviation with the idea of creating a leadership development program for 100 young women. They taught our very first DeCal for mentors in Fall 2013 and began the mentorship program in Spring 2014.
VRINDA AGARWAL
Vrinda Agarwal graduated from UC Berkeley double majoring in International Economics and Political Science. She is very passionate about community service and leadership. In high school, Vrinda created a Refugee Empowerment Service Project to help many families of re-located refugees from Bhutan. For her efforts, Vrinda was awarded the Girl Scouts Gold Award, selected as one of 10 “National Young Women of Distinction” in the US, and featured in Time Magazine (2012). In college, Vrinda co-founded the Big Ideas-winning NGO 100 Strong, which serves to empower low income women through leadership development and mentorship training. She has previously interned at the White House and is working at Goldman Sachs as an investment banking analyst.
RUHI NATH
Ruhi Nath graduated UC Berkeley in 2015 with a B.A. in Public Health and minor in Anthropology. In college, Ruhi co-founded the Big Ideas-winning NGO 100 Strong and represented Cal at the Clinton Global Initiative University Conference in 2014. After graduation, she completed a Public Health Fellowship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working on immunizations and STI community interventions in Southern California. Ruhi is passionate about improving access to education in underserved populations and has done extensive work volunteering in San Francisco, Berkeley, and India. She now works in pediatric cancer research with the Cancer Clinical Trials Office at Stanford University.
SMRITI JONEJA
Smriti graduated from Berkeley in 2015 with double majors (MCB [Biochemistry & Molecular Bio.] and ISF [Global Public Health & Health Policy]) and double minors (Human Rights and GPP [Global Poverty & Practice]), where she applied to critically analyze 100 Strong for her practicum. During college, Smriti co-founded 100 Strong and attended the Clinton Global Initiative University conference (CGI U) representing Cal in 2015. Since graduating, Smriti works for an East Bay community health center in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), serving over 60,000 patients, most of whom are low-income and medically-underserved.
Additionally, Smriti helped design and teach Cal’s first undergrad global health course, became a +Acument Corps member and continues to mentor with 100 Strong in her free time. She continues to enjoy hip hop and house music, dancing, cooking, adventuring and DJing
MADEEHA GHORI
Madeeha graduated from Berkeley in 2015 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She currently works as a software engineer at Nextdoor. In her spare time, Madeeha enjoys volunteering, exploring San Francisco, and pretending she'll finish all the art projects in her head.
JULIE BROWN
Julie is currently serving as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador where she has joined a fishing community of 1,500+ resilient women and men. The drinking water in her community is heavily contaminated from mining operations with high concentrations of aluminum, cadmium, copper, zinc, lead, and hexavelent chromium. Many people suffer from serious kidney pains. Some families only drink soda because the water is so polluted.
She is working on creating access to clean, safe drinking water with the people in her community.
